Luncheon Meetings: First Thursday of the month at 12 Noon at San Mateo Elks Lodge, 20th Ave.


Treasurer Bob Chang reported that we had a slight surplus in January because of the annual luncheon contributions.  We had 110 members make an annual contribution this year, roughly 2/3 of the membership.  Currently the surplus $6,848, which we expect to bring down during the year to our goal of $5,400 through subsidies to Ladies Day, Christmas Party and one or more reduced  luncheon prices. "We our in good shape", Bob said.   Contact Bob Chang or Joe Lysek to participate in the annual contribution programAl Malouf and Al Hons have agreed to conduct the Branch's financial audits, as they have been doing for many years now....

TRAVEL TOURS INFORMATION:

Harry reported that the Palm Springs trip is sold out. The March 23rd Redhawk Casino trip is only $33 per person and there is available space left... $10 is given back.

Dick Hogan, Tom Malaspina and Roger Hall are continuing their enthusiastic promotional efforts by announcing our Branch 142 activities so as to lure new members into joining our organization.


SWEEPSTAKES NEWS: 

Check your Badge Numbers.  If you have Nos. 126-150 (to be assigned for March 2010) you can get three(3) free tickets, providing you purchase"Deal or No Deal" tickets.    See John Garcia, Dick McEachron or Mert Spear for purchases or questions.

Also,  Beginning with the March meeting members who buy a $5.00 string of tickets for eight (8) consecutive meetings will receive a different colored card.  When you turn in the eight different colored cards you will receive a free meal.  There will be no change to the ATTA BOY program.

Read Ken Braband's article about the Branch 142 Bowlers, "the truly indoor sport of all times", in the home edition Newsletter, also see our Website for pictures of the Bowler's Banquet that Ken provided us, and stats too. He is also calling for more members to join the bowling gang for more fun than you can probably handle in one day, but try it, you'll love it.

Art Devoy will have access to a new Website that the SIR's Speaker's Bureau is developing which will allow him to view and choose a variety active speakers  for our luncheon meetings .

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

At our February General Meeting Buck Kendrick , SIR State President, presented Bob Smith with the Honorary Life Award (HLM). This is SIR's highest and most prestigious award. This is our way to show our membership's appreciation to Bob Smith who has performed outstanding and exceptional service for our Branch.   CONGRATULATON BOB!

ACTIVITY REPORTS:

Bob Lockwood will be our year 2010 Ladies Day Chairman and John Kristovich will Chair the Christmas Party again....the membership thanks both of you gentlemen for volunteering to do this for Branch 142.

On February 19th, Region 5, Area 1, Big Sirs got together at a meeting to begin a process of exchanging ideas for the betterment of their  branch operations. Those in attendance were: Gil L. Goodrich, BR.#1; Wayne Veatch, BR #4; Henry G. "Hank" Gomez#25; Carlton Martz, BR#91; George Karnen BR#118; and Al Armand BR#142. Each Big Sir will bring back to their Branch many of the ideas, plans, or activities addressed by this group and bring them to their Board members, who will review and determine if they would help their branches improve recruitment, attendance and new activities efforts for their individual branches.
